Four Counties Inter Club Challenge
The first ever Four Counties Inter Club Challenge was held at the club recently. The brainchild of Head Coach, Geoff Barrie, Bewdley (Worcs) welcomed players from Shifnal(Shropshire) Chipping Camden(Glos) and Halesowen(Staffs). Each club fielded four U14 age group boys, none of whom play regular competition tennis. The round robin singles format gave all the players valuable match experience, and left them asking for more such events. The home club was represented by George Carroll, Joe Fish, Pierce Sloan and Ryan Giles. Bewdley head coach Geoff Barrie said “there were 24 matches played altogether, with sportsmanlike conduct displayed by all the boys. All in all a great day’s tennis.” Shifnal were the victors with 11 wins, and returned home with the cup. The next round will be on November 26 th when the clubs will bring 2 boys and 2 girls, again U14, and play a mixed doubles tournament. There will be stiff competition to take home the cup! ****************************************************************** Mini Tennis Tournament
Geoff said "all in all a great day for Bewdley Tennis Club's juniors" and thanked Jackie Vaughan, Michele Lace, Jenny Frow and Ollie Tombs for their help.

Jack up for the big prize Jack in running for award. A TEENAGER from BewdIey Tennis Club is in the running for a top county award. Jack George-Burnell, 17, has been nominated by the club for the junior male sports person of the year category at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire County Sports Awards. He is up against Jonathan Tye from Worcester Canoe Club and Harry Sykes, who has performed well in swimming, cross country, horse riding and shooting. However, the Bewdley youngster has won the county under-l8’s tennis title three years in a row. A committed member of the club, the Bewdley High School student also volunteers to help out with the juniors on Friday night. Club press officer Jenny Frow said: “Jack is a very good tennis player and a lovely young man. “The club nominated him because of his success at the county championship but also because he’s also committed to the club.” Some of the top amateur sports people from Herefordshire and Worcestershire are vying for titles in 12 categories. The awards will be presented during a glittering awards evening on Wednesday, November 16 at Worcester Warriors RFC. This follows a three-week nomination process, where members of the public were invited to name their local sporting heroes.
